FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything people most often ask — how the tools work, what they cost, which AI engines they cover, and how we keep every number honest.

Getting started & billing

Is there a free option?+

Yes. Every account starts free with 15 credits, no card required, and Site Checks are always free. You only spend credits on audits and rewrites that complete.

Do I need an account?+

Yes — every account starts free with 15 credits and no card required. Site Checks are always free; you only spend credits on audits and rewrites that complete.

What is a free AI visibility checker?+

A free AI visibility checker shows, at no cost, whether AI answer engines can find and read your website. Sailiently's Site Check is one: paste your domain and it reports, crawler by crawler, whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI and others are allowed to reach your pages — the first layer of AI visibility. It is free, with no credit card.

What counts as a completed audit or rewrite?+

One that runs to completion and returns a result. If a job can't complete — for example, a page can't be fetched — it fails cleanly and isn't charged. You only spend credits on work that finishes.

What happens if a page can't be fetched?+

It fails cleanly and is not charged. You only spend credits on audits that run to completion and return a result.

How Sailiently works

What does Sailiently actually do?+

It shows you how readable and discoverable your pages are to AI answer engines and exactly what to fix to get cited. The GEO Suite has four page-level jobs — Site Check, URL Audit, Gap Analysis and Page Rewrite — alongside the AI Visibility Tracker and Citation Radar.

How does it work?+

Drop in a URL with no setup or tags. You get a scored report with per-engine scores, the evidence behind them, and a ranked list of what to fix first. Apply the fixes or let Sailiently rewrite the page, then re-check.

Which AI engines does Sailiently help you get found by?+

The AI Visibility Tracker measures six: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode — plus the optional LLM Mentions add-on. The free Site Check also reads your robots.txt and llms.txt to tell you whether AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are allowed to reach your pages at all.

Which service should I start with?+

Start with the free Site Check — it tells you whether AI crawlers can even reach your site. If they can, run a URL Audit on a key page, then use Gap Analysis and Page Rewrite to close gaps and improve it.

What is llms.txt, and does it matter?+

It's a plain-text file at your site root that gives AI engines a curated map of your most important pages. It's forward-looking — major engines don't widely consume it yet — so Sailiently checks for it but weights it lightly in your score.

Site Check

What does Site Check actually check?+

It reads your live robots.txt and llms.txt and reports, for each major AI crawler, whether it is allowed or blocked, plus whether your sitemap and llms.txt are declared.

Is Site Check really free?+

Yes. Site Check is always free — no credits and no card required. You only spend credits on audits and rewrites that complete.

Which AI crawlers does it check?+

The crawlers behind ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini / Google AI, Common Crawl, Apple AI and ByteDance — twelve in total, each checked on its own.

Does Site Check tell me whether AI engines are citing me?+

No — and no free checker can be sure without querying each engine. Site Check measures whether AI crawlers can reach and read your site, which is the prerequisite for being cited. Whether an engine then cites you also depends on your page content (scored by the URL Audit) and your off-page authority.

My site shows as blocked — what now?+

Remove the Disallow rules in robots.txt for the crawlers you want reading you, then run a URL Audit on a key page to score how readable its content is.

URL Audit & Gap Analysis

What does URL Audit measure?+

On-page readability and technical signals AI crawlers can see. It does not measure actual citations or traffic, which depend on off-page authority and each engine's own choices.

Can I audit a competitor's page?+

Yes. You can run a URL Audit on any public page, not just your own — and Gap Analysis benchmarks your page directly against named competitors' pages, so you can see where you trail and by how much.

How is Gap Analysis different from a URL Audit?+

A URL Audit scores one page in isolation. Gap Analysis benchmarks your page against named competitors, factor by factor, so you see your relative standing and the specific gaps to close.

Does it average my competitors together?+

No. Sailiently compares against each competitor by name and never blends them into an 'average competitor', so the read stays specific.

If I close the gaps, will I beat them?+

Gap Analysis shows the on-page gaps you can act on. Whether you overtake a rival also depends on off-page authority and each engine's own selection, which no tool controls.

Page Rewrite

Does Page Rewrite invent content?+

No. A rewrite is grounded strictly in your own content, with no invented facts, claims or statistics. Anything that needs a source is flagged for you to verify.

What does it actually change?+

Structure and phrasing — answer-first sections, self-contained passages, and a tighter title, meta and llms.txt entry. It does not change your underlying facts.

Will it publish changes to my site automatically?+

No. You get a ready-to-review draft. Nothing is ever auto-published — you decide what to use.

Do I need to run a URL Audit first?+

No. You can rewrite pasted or uploaded content directly. Running a URL Audit first and then rewriting that page produces a more sharply targeted result, and the two run together as a 12-credit bundle.

AI Visibility Tracker

Which AI engines does it check?+

Six: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. They do not all work the same way — Gemini and Perplexity search the live web while answering; ChatGPT and Claude answer without live browsing in our pipeline; AI Overviews and AI Mode assemble from pages Google already cites. That is why results are reported per engine rather than as one blended number.

What goes into the score?+

Three things measured separately in every answer: whether your brand was mentioned, whether your domain was cited as a source, and where in the answer you appeared. Only answers actually retrieved count — failed calls are disclosed and excluded, never counted as zeroes, and the credits for them are refunded.

Why run each question more than once?+

Because AI answers vary between runs. Multiple passes separate durable visibility from a one-off mention and show how consistent your presence really is.

Do I need to know which prompts to use?+

No. Paste your own, or let Prompt Foundations suggest them from real search demand and buyer-journey stages.

What is the difference between being mentioned and being cited?+

They are recorded separately, because they are not the same thing. Mentioned means your brand name appeared in the answer text. Cited means your domain appeared in the answer's source list. A citation sends a reader to you; a mention does not. We also record where in the answer you appeared — a brand named in the opening lines is doing more work than one listed at the end.

Do you tell me my rank in AI answers?+

No. There is no ranked list underneath an AI answer to be ranked in, so a rank would be something we invented. We report whether you appeared, whether you were cited, where in the answer, and who appeared alongside you.

What is the LLM Mentions add-on, and what does it cover?+

It is a separate, optional data source — not an extra engine on your tracker run. It draws on indexed third-party mention data covering Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT only, and shows which domains your category's answers keep drawing from.

Trust & accuracy

Are the per-engine scores official numbers from the AI engines?+

No. AI engines do not publish how they choose their sources. The per-engine readiness figures are Sailiently's own directional estimates — useful for comparing factors and deciding what to fix first, not values published or endorsed by any engine.

Do you make up data if something can't be measured?+

No — never. If a value can't be measured, it isn't shown. Scores are real measurements, figures are real figures, and every claim is backed by evidence from the actual fetch.

Will Sailiently guarantee I get cited or ranked?+

No. Sailiently measures and improves the on-page and technical signals that make a page readable and citable. Whether an engine actually cites you also depends on off-page authority and each engine's own evolving choices, which no tool controls.
